Dr. T and the Women is not among Robert Altman's best films. It is an uneven comedy of manners about a wealthy Dallas gycologist, Dr. Sully Travis, who is surrounded by women on the job as well as at home.
He gets desperate and confused when his wife goes insane while his eldest daughter Dee Dee is planning her wedding even though she is slowly realizing that she is a lesbian. The only normal person in Dr. T's world is Bree, an independent and natural woman, with whom he starts having an affair, but even she lets him down eventually.
On the surface Dr. T may appear a tribute to the female sex, but in fact it is rather misogynist considering that apart from Bree all the other women are superficial, hysterical and self-obsessed. That is sadly also a rather precise characterization of the film.
