Proof of Life

Proof of Life is a slow starter, and a running time of more than two hours is a bit much, but apart from that it is an entertaining thriller.
The story takes place in the banana republic of Tecala where the idealistic engineer Peter Bowman is constructing a dam. On his way to work he is abducted by a group of guerillas who soon realize that Peter is a valuable hostage.
The only problem is that Peter's company has just been dissolved and sold, so he is not insured against kidnapping. After much consideration the kidnap and ransom expert and former soldier Terry Thorne agrees to help Peter's wife Alice getting her husband back safe, but the case turns out to be more than just a little tricky.
In an underdevelopped subplot Terry and Alice are attracted to each other, but nothing really comes of it.
