In Hard Rain a heavy fall of rain has resulted in the flooding of the small town of Huntingburg, Indiana, so everybody has been evacuated. The most impressive sequence of the film is probably the opening long take which gives us an idea of the extent of the damage.
Tom and his uncle Charlie, the guards who are driving an armoured car, are stuck in the mud, but they soon realize that of the people left in town few are willing to help. They are only after the money in the car.
Hard Rain is not so much a disaster movie about how to survive a natural disaster as an action movie about how to survive one while being chased by a gang of criminals and the police.
