The Three Musketeers from 1948 is a fun and colourful adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' famous novel of the three musketeers who became four. Gene Kelly plays the part of d'Artagnan, a young Gascon with a hot temper, who turns out to be just as good a swordsman as the King's best musketeers.
The fencing scenes are elegantly choreographed like a show, almost an acrobatic show, in which Kelly is the centre. At times his performance is too clownish, though. In fact, the only problem of the film seems to be that it changes too drastically between different moods. A farcical scene follows a tragic one and vice versa.
