Alien - Resurrection

The sci-fi thriller Alien - Resurrection is the latest movie in the "Alien" tetralogy. It may measure up to David Fincher's "Alien 3", but it is still a far cry from the originality of "Alien" and "Aliens". Much of the action in Alien - Resurrection is reminiscent of the other movies in the cycle, but the aliens chasing the humans somehow just does not stop being thrilling.
As the title indicates, Ripley is resurrected and so is her baby, a queen alien, at the beginning of the story. In fact Ripley has been cloned from her own DNA, but as the mad scientists who are determinded to bring the monsters back to life have not managed to separate Ripley's DNA and the queen's DNA completely, Ripley has become part Alien, a very small part though.
The scientists are successful in creating 12 aliens, but less successful in keeping them locked up.
The distinctive visual style of the movie is typical of its French director Jean-Piere Jeunet, who has made some acclaimed movies such as "La cité des enfants perdus" ("The City of the Lost Children") together with Marc Caro. He is definitely not squeamish as he revels in the gross and the grotesque.
