It no big loss if you do not get to see The Deep End of the Ocean on the big screen (especially when it's on DVD). You are just as well off watching it on a (preferably huge) tv-screen as the film smells a bit like a tv-movie. It is a moving family drama that focuses on the interrelations and different ways of reacting in a family that are affected by a tragedy.
The harmonious family life of Beth and Pat Cappadora and their three small children brutally comes to an end when the youngest son Ben disappears mysteriously at Beth's high school reunion. Ben cannot be found. A part of the family has been amputated. How can they go on?
