Playing by Heart

Playing by Heart is about love and personal relationships in the lives of 11 very different people in Los Angeles ranging from an old couple (Gena Rowlands and Sean Connery, who experience a sudden crisis in their married life, to a pair of teenagers (Ryan Phillippe and Angelina Jolie), who do not even know each other at the beginning of the story.

Playing by Heart is a "Short Cuts" light. It resembles Robert Altman's film in many ways, eg its mosaic structure, but it is significantly less complex. In director and screenwriter Willard Carroll's film all the problems are effectively and successfully dealt with, so that we can have a true Hollywood ending.
