The Gingerbread Man does not belong among Robert Altman's best films. It is a mediocre film noir that does not add anything new to the genre. Moreover, the film does not benefit from Kenneth Branagh's poor attempt at a Deep Southern drawl.
Branagh is Rick Magruder, a successful lawyer, who has an affair with a beautiful, young waitress, Mallory Doss. Soon she is more than just his mistress, she is also his client. When Mallory reveals how her father stalks her, Rick offers the damsel in distress his assistence - free of charge of course.
The film has its share of fatal women, greed, lies and gullible men like Rick, who does not realize how he has been fooled until very late, maybe too late?
