Micky O'Neill, an opportunistic nightclubowner in Liverpool, engages the popular tenor Josef Locke, but his new star is revealed to be an impostor. As a result of this scandal Micky loses his girlfriend Nancy and has to close his nightclub.

To be able reopen his nightclub and to get Nancy back Micky travels to Ireland to find the real Josef Locke and persuade him to perform in his nightclub. That is easier said than done.

Charming offbeat comedy with many songs, too many songs, especially at the end.
