Review
The first feature film from filmmaker Lotte Svendsen is a daring feat because in one story she attempts to include several seemingly incompatible genres. With a few exceptions, the violent shifts between comedy and tragic melodrama and realism and magic realism are successful.
Lars Erik is a young, proud and self-confident skipper in the Danish island of Bornholm in the early 80s. Lars Erik and his fellow fishermen are making heaps of money, but with the introduction of fishing quotas prosperity and optimism are replaced by bankruptcies and frustrations. Lars Erik's loving wife Sonja will do anything to help if only her proud husband would let her.
