Tillsammans ("Together") is both the name of Swedish filmmaker Lukas Moodysson's second feature and the name of the commune shared by several families and singles in this warm and funny film.
In 1975 Elisabeth and her two children move into Tillsammans to escape her violent husband. The children are less enthused about exchanging middle-class family values for political correctness, sexual freedom and Marxist values, but gradually they adapt to their new surroundings.
It is all too easy to condemn the 70s and all that the age stands for, but Moodysson has not chosen the easy way. Instead Tillsammans is a nuanced film about different ways of living and thinking.
