The teen movie Mad Love is a disappointment. Director Antonia Bird ("Priest") and the leads Chris O'Donnell and Drew Barrymore are let down by a trivial script. The soundtrack only makes matters worse.
Matt is a nice high-school boy who falls in love with his opposite, the reckless and impulsive Casey. When Casey is committed to a mental hospital, Matt helps her escape and they go on the lam. He thinks she is misunderstood by her well-meaning parents, but it is more complicated than that; she is also mentally ill.
The movie is somewhat similar to the much better "Crazy/Beautiful" starring lovely Kirsten Dunst.
