Young photographer Isabel Kelly and housewife Jackie Harrison are not the best of friends, to put it mildly. Isabel is dating Luke, Jackie's ex, and is doing her best to be a good stepmom to Luke's and Jackie's teenage daughter Anna and her little brother Ben. But she is not used to looking after children and Jackie is not making things easier for her.

Stepmom seemingly deals with the collapse of the nuclear family, but in fact it is just another smooth Hollywood melodrama with no genuine interest in addressing the problems that arise when families are breaking up and new family structures are forming..
