Men in Black II

So agents J and K are back in a new zany story that stays more or less on a par with "Men in Black". Second time round, however, there is a limit to how surprised and captivated one can be by the film's quirky universe. It is more about the pleasure of reunion.

Beings from alien planets are fighting over the Light of Zartha, a force that may prove crucial to the survival of the planet Zartha. Serleena from the planet Kyloth will do anything to get hold of the Light of Zartha, and when she arrives on Earth with this aim, she first transforms herself into a seductive lingerie model so as not to arouse suspicion.

Agent J is assigned to investigate a murder committed by Serleena, but he cannot manage the task without the help of Agent K, who knows more about the Light of Zartha than anyone else. Unfortunately K's memory has been erased, and when J finds him he is working at a remote post office. It is no easy matter getting K to remember again so that they can find the Light of Zartha before Serleena, and meanwhile the MiB headquarters has been invaded by Serleena.

"Men in Black" is rich in comical goings-on and imaginative creatures, but the film is more quirky than thigh-slappingly funny.
