Breakdown

Breakdown is an intense thriller about a married couple, Jeff and Amy Taylor, whose car breaks down in the middle of the desert. A friendly lorry driver stops and offers Amy a lift to the nearest town so she can get help. Jeff stays with the car and waits and waits. In the end he solves the problem himself, but when he arrives at the agreed meeting place, nobody has apparently seen his wife. Jeff even runs into the driver who gave Amy a lift and confronts him, but the man professes not to understand the accusation and claims he has never seen either Jeff or his wife before. The police can do nothing.

Jeff Taylor's dramatic ordeal is far from over, however. His life is threatened and he is asked for a ransom for Amy, who has evidently been kidnapped. The plot and atmosphere at the start of the film promise something more inventive, but Kurt Russell turns into an everyman hero and sets off on a rescue mission. Exciting, but not surprising.
