Even though it is only fiction, this visually polished science fiction thriller is an interesting and alarming contribution to the debate about manipulation of human genes.
Gattaca takes place in the near future when DNA manipulation is so advanced that less and less children are conceived and born in the natural way. The Valids these new wonderkids are called, and unfortunately for Vincent Freeman he is not one of them, which he has to be if his dream of becoming a space pilot will ever come true.
When Vincent meets a young star athlete who has become paralyzed in an accident abroad, he forms a dangerous plan.
