Planet of the Apes can no longer impress with its special effects and its make-up, but the imaginative sci-fi story is still worth spending a few hours on.
On the planet that the astronaut George Taylor (Charlton Heston) and his crew arrive on apes have developed an advanced civilisation whereas specimens of the human race turn out to be primitive beings. Taylor has a problem: how can he convince the apes that he is different from the other humans and just as intelligent as his captivators? What is most memorable about this film is the stunning ending.
