Review

Mi Vida Loca is an episodic film about young Mexican-American people's lives in a poor Los Angeles suburb. The filmmaker Alison Anders chooses to focus on a whole group of teenagers instead of just a few main characters. These days not only boys are gang members; now the girls form their own gangs, and it is particularly this gang mentality that interests Anders, who appears to have an in depth knowledge of the milieu she is studying.

The film is told from different points of view on the soundtrack. This is a bit confusing to begin with, but most of all I wish Anders had had more of a story to tell. A plot hardly exists.
