Review

Les Enfants du Paradis ("Children of Paradise") is a poetic masterpiece about the lives and loves of a group of actors in Paris in the 1820s and 1830s. The originality of the film is not in the plot, but in the description of the many faces of love and the relationship between life and art.

Garance is the independant femme fatale who is the object of desire for the elegant thief Lacenaire, the actor Frederick Lemaître and a count, but she is the object of love for the young, uncorrupted mime Baptiste. He, in turn, is loved by the actress Natalie.

Les Enfants du Paradis looks its age, but it still has plenty of qualities to make it worth watching.
