Sixteen Candles

Sixteen Candles is writer-director John Hughes directorial debut. His leading lady, Molly Ringwald, plays Samantha who wakes up on the day she turns sixteen only to find out that everybody has forgotten her birthday because of her sister's impending wedding. Furthermore she has to put up with a crazy Chinise exchange student and an irritating freshman when all she can think about is the unattainable Jake.

Compared to other teenage comedies from the 80s Hughes' film is remarkably serious, but I still find it too silly in comparison with some of his later works.
