Frank Sinatra plays the main character, the detective Joe Leland, who does not relent when it comes to fighting crime and corruption within the police force. He is always nosing into everything.
The movie explores the methods and working conditions of the policemen, which is laudable enough, but the film is unnecessarily preoccupied with sleazy stuff. The relationship between Leland and his ex-wife is also uninteresting.
