Deception

Ruby Cairo is a crime drama that holds little in the way of suspense. The protagonist, Bessie Faro, receives her husband's belongings at home in a box. He has apparently died abroad, where he ran several more or less shady businesses. Bessie is left with several children from her marriage to the charmer Johnny, who was rarely at home. But Bessie is not so easily knocked down. She sniffs out a code that Johnny devised. It leads to a series of safe-deposit boxes around the world, including in Cairo, where plenty of money is waiting for her. Bessie discovers, however, that what she is doing is not entirely without danger. She is being watched everywhere. On her travels she does meet a sympathetic person, the relief worker Fergus Lamb. If his intentions are honest, there is a romance in prospect.

Ruby Cairo is entertaining enough, but the plot is just a notch too far-fetched. The picture quality was nothing to write home about either, but that may of course be because TV1000 received a poor print.
