The Crucible is a gripping and cinematic adaptation of the allegorical play by Arthur Miller who also wrote the screenplay.
This story about witch-hunt and the terrible effects of mass hysteria takes place in Salem, Mass. in 1692, but at the same time it refers to the paranoid persecution of alleged communists in the early 1950s.
A group of teenage girls are discovered dancing and doing other sinful acts in the forest. The girls claim that the Devil himself has possessed them and that his helpers, witches, are at work in the village. Soon the air is thick with accusations of witchcraft.
