The Vietnam War has been the subject of several films, but the latest war that the USA fought, the Gulf War, has not been awarded much attention. David Russell's highly critical Three Kings ought to change that.
The film is a harrowing and gripping humanist war movie, which is part satire, part action movie. It takes place right after the war when four soldiers led by Major Gates secretly embark on a treasure hunt for a huge number of gold bars hidden in one of the Iraqi bunkers. Not surprisingly, their venture does not quite develop the way that they had hoped for, not least due to Major Gates' decision to change his priorities.
