This thriller is great entertainment, but it is also a disappointment. Actiondirector Renny Harlin and his scriptwriters have found an enormous amount of inspiration in "Alien", "Jaws" and "The Poseidon Adventure". What plot elements they have come up with themselves is not impressive.
On an advanced research laboratory in the ocean a group of scientists led by Dr. Susan McAlester are trying to develop a drug that can cure Alzheimer's. For that purpose they use three sharks as reseach animals.
Because their main investor is losing patience with the project, Dr. McAlester has speeded up the experiments with the sharks, not realizing that it has made the animals extremely intelligent - and larger. During a violent storm at sea, the sharks escape from their prison. Survival is getting increasingly difficult with the laboratory sinking and the sharks on the loose.

Of course this is not "Jaws"... But its effective - and the music (Trevor Rabin) is great! |
