Adapting Nick Hornby's bestseller may not have been an easy task considering the movie's tiny plot. This may account for the numerous credited scriptwriters involved in the project. The lack of a plotdriven story is largely made up for by the relaxed charm and the witty dialogue/monologue.
The ambiguous title of the film says it all: High Fidelity is about music as well as fidelity and commitment in a relationship. The main character Rob, who owns a recordstore in Chicago, is dumped by his girlfriend Laura. What does he do? Try to get her back? No. He makes a top 5 list of previous girlfriends who has dumped him!
