The Princess Bride is a hilarious adventure comedy that plays with the conventions of adventure movies and fairytales. At the same time it actually manages to be thrilling.
Buttercup is a wealthy farmer's daughter who falls in love with the stable boy Westley. To earn Buttercup's love Westley goes away to seek his fortune. When Buttercup hears that her beloved has died, she becomes engaged to Prince Humperdinck, but the rumour turns out to be false: Westley is alive and he returns just in time because Buttercup is in great peril.
