Wonder Boys is an intelligent drama with a subtle sense of humour about English professor Grady Tripp who is going through a mid-life crisis.
For a start his wife leaves him. On the same day his mistress Sara tells him that she is expecting his baby. Unfortunately she is married to the head of the English department where Grady works. To make matters worse Grady's editor Terry Crabtree shows up hoping to find Grady's new novel ready for publishing, but Grady has not yet finished the follow-up to his highly successful first novel published seven years ago.
In addition Grady feels obliged to look after one of his students, the gifted, but confused James Leer. The two of them are the wonder boys of the title, and both of them are having a hard time handling their their talents, well their lives. In the space of one weekend will Grady manage to take control of his life and take responsibility? In short: will he grow up?
