Space Cowboys is a witty comedy about four retired ace pilots who suddenly get the chance to make a dream come true. The four of them were originally meant to play an important part in space research, but in 1958 a monkey was chosen to travel into space instead of them!
More than forty years later Frank Corvin has not forgotten the disappointment so when NASA asks him to help fix a broken satellite, he agrees on the condition that he and his former colleagues carry out the job. NASA agrees on one condition; they have to meet the same physical demands as the young astronauts. This is how the comedy arises because in the old bodies still hide some competitive and playful boys who will not admit to themselves or anyone else that they have grown old.
Twothirds into the movie it suddenly changes from a comedy into an ordinary thriller in the vein of "Armageddon" and "Deep Impact". This change of genre does not agree with the rest of the movie.
