McCool's is the bar where Randy, the bartender, sets his eyes on the bewitching Jewel for the first time. Apparently he rescues her from a bully who tries to rape her, but Jewel is not really a damsel in distress. In fact Randy loses his job and his house because of Jewel.
Randy is not the first nor the last man to fall for the irresistable Jewel. Among her other admirers we find Randy's cousin, the conceited lawyer Carl, and Dehling, a detective, who takes Jewel for an angel. Randy's story is intertwined with Carls and Dehling's stories.
Who is Jewel? We never really find out, which is probably a point in the story, but also a weakness as her actions seem erratic, far from those of a calculating femme fatale.
The plot of this black thriller comedy is intricate, but the characters are made out of cardboard, so only look for light entertainment and nothing more.
