Believe it or not. Shall We Danse? is a warm and charming drama about ballroom dancing in Japan.
In Japanese society ballroom dancing is not considered respectable as physical contact between men and women is deemed outright embarrassing. This is why it takes quite some courage for Shohei Sugiyama to sneak into a dancing school to get his first lessons before going home to his family in the suburbs.
Shohei's initial interest in taking dancing lessons stems not from desire to danse, but from an erotic fascination with the beautiful dancer Mai Kishiwaka whom he has watched practising while waiting for his train.
