Surviving Picasso focuses on the relationship between Picasso and Francoise Gilot, a French painter, who was 40 years his junior. In contrast to his previous mistresses Francoise does not put up with anything. In fact she insists on being his equal. Can she make him love her forever? Will she be Picasso's last mistress?
Surviving Picasso is an overlong, classic drama that could have been a lot more interesting and fascinating if the director James Ivory and his scriptwriter Ruth Prawer Jhabvala had ventured to make a film in the spirit of the avantgarde artist Picasso, something more daring and less mainstream.
