The famous Danish writer Karen Blixen lived in Africa for over a decade. It is this important period of her life the film describes, but most of all it is a love story. Karen Blixen was married to a Swedish baron, but the marriage was a failure regarding love. Instead she fell in love with Hatton, an English hunter, who is played by Robert Redford with a conspicuous American accent.
Apart from Redford's wrong accent Out of Africa is an engrossing drama and at the end of the film also a rather effective tear-jerker, particularly with John Barry's music and David Watkin's grandiose cinematography. Both won Oscars. So did the film and its director.
