Barcelona did not quite live up to my expectations. They were probably sky-high because I found writer-director Whit Stillman's earlier film "Metropolitan" brilliant.
The film of course takes place in Barcelona, where Ted Boynton, a young American businessman works and lives. He is joined by his cousin, Fred, who is in the Navy. They explore Barcelona together, its social life and its women, and they keenly observe the differences from American life.
Barcelona is a talky film, in which the characters are defined by their talk. That also goes for "Metropolitan", but what I found exasperating about Barcelona was the characters. They were simply too annoying to be with by the end of the film.
