Michael Crichton directed this highly entertaining heist film based on his own novel. If he gets tired of writing bestsellers, he can always start directing some more.
The great train robbery is ostensibly the first great train robbery in England and world history. As a matter of fact the film is also known by the title "The First Great Train Robbery".
In 1855 Edward Pierce pretends to be a wealthy, respectable gentleman in London while preparing a gold heist together with the Irish safe-breaker Agar and his mistress Miriam.
The recreation of the Victorian Age has been carried thoroughly through.
