U Turn

U Turn resembles another modern film noir "Red Rock West". Both films are about a younger man who is stranded in a small town in the desert. An older man offers him a lot of money to kill his young wife. The young man can't make himself kill the wife. Instead she offers him even more money if he kills her husband.
   In Oliver Stone's version Sean Penn is Bobby Cooper, the stranger in the town of Superior, where everyone appears more or less crazy. As Bobby's luck continues to fail him so the humour becomes increasingly black. This is an unpleasant film to sit through.
   Visually U Turn is impressive although I find the style mannered and pretentious.
