Elizabeth is a compelling and sumptuous historical drama about the English Queen Elizabeth I. It is not about the glorious reign of her later years, but about the dramatic road to power and her precarious position during the very first years of her reign in the middle of 16th century.
   Elizabeth becomes a key figure in the power struggle between Catholics and Protestants. All of her adversaries are cunning and experienced in this sort of game so does she really stand a chance?
   Cate Blanchett is perfect as Elizabeth, a young and innocent English rose who has to grow thorns in order to survive.
   Elizabeth is a dynamic and visually overwhelming movie that gives an extremely intense and vivid picture of the period.
