Oscar

Oscar is a failed attempt to make a screwball farce as they were made by Hollywood in the 30s. The film even takes place in the 30s.
Oscar is based on a French play, which is a bit too obvious in the film as almost all of the story unfolds in just one house, the home of Snaps Provolone, a prominent gangster about to become legit.
An instance of mistaken identities (and later more) sets the comedy in motion, but by my standards it is just not very funny. The dialogue is nowhere near the verbal wit in the classic screwball comedies that Oscar tries to imitate. Most of the actors do a decent job, but Sylvester Stallone is much better in his action hero parts where he is usually the silent type.
