Intimate Relations takes place in the mid 50s in a small town to which a young man Harold Guppy arrives in search of his brother. He finds him, but is not particularly welcome so he becomes a lodger of Mrs Beasley's. She treats him as a family member and even insists that he calls her Mum, but she is not really after a son. What Mrs Beasley really wants is a lover in spite of the fact that she is married and has a teenage daughter in the house.
Intimate Relations reminds me of "Heavenly Creatures" because both films are dark and slightly grotesque melodramas about high strung passions based on real events. In addition Intimate Relations is also a black comedy, but the humour was not to my taste.
