A Simple Plan is the classic story of how money can make decent people turn greedy, selfish and ruthless.
The film takes place in "Fargo" land, in the snow-covered landscape of the Northen Midwest, where Hank and Jacob, who are brothers, and Lou, Jacob's friend, find a bag containing more than 4 million dollars in a plane wreck. Hank wants to hand the bag over to the police, but Jacob and Lou persuade him to keep the money. It may seem a simple plan, but is it a good one too?
Sam Raimi shows more restraint in the visual style of this horrifying psychological thriller compared to his previous movies. Wisely, he has found it more important to create the tense and ominous atmosphere of the film rather than showing off. Danny Elfman's disharmonic score only makes the chill even more palpable.
