Steven Kovacs, who is now living on his own because his girlfriend Robin needed a break, is expecting the cable guy. When Chip Douglas shows up, he not only installs cable tv, he also turns Steven's life into a living hell because he wants Steven as his friend whether Steven likes it or not.
The Cable Guy is a black comedy that is really unpleasant to watch. The theme of this film, raving lunatic stalks helpless victim (which is also the theme of "The Fan"), is not really funny at all.
It is obvious that Jim Carrey's character is a madman, so it is not very credible that none of the other characters realize that and react upon it before it is too late. I would have locked my door and called the police the minute I saw the guy.
