Review
Sørensen og Rasmussen ("Sørensen and Rasmussen") is a witty and warm-hearted comedy. It is an attack on snobbery and a praise of humanity and magnanimity.
Two of the main characters, King Frederik VII and Countess Danner, are historical figures living in the 19th century. As the king was only married to the countess with the left hand and as she was not of noble birth (her name of birth being Rasmussen), the aristocracy despised her.
Sørensen is the housekeeper in the manor house owned by Niels Parsberg and his young wife Hilleborg. When it is announced that the king is going to pay a short visit, Hilleborg persuades Sørensen to act as the mistress of the house, because Hilleborg will not deign to kiss the countess' hand. The shamming is only meant to go on for a few hours, but then the king decides to prolong his stay!
