Review

Why revive the black hero Shaft and do a remake of Shaft (1971)? As writer-director John Singleton has nothing much to add, it seems rather pointless because the story in itself is a violent mess, although an entertaining one.

A young black man is killed outside a nightclub. A young white man, Walter Wade, who is the son of a billionaire, is charged with the murder. Christian Bale's stereotypical character is a cold-hearted racist who knows that money and the right connections is everything, but he has not reckoned with Shaft.

A key witness, the waitress Diane, has disappeared, but Shaft has not given up hope of finding her, preferably before Wade's goons do.
