La vita è bella (Life is beautiful) is a moving tragicomedy about an Italian Jew, played by the director and scriptwriter Roberto Benigni himself, who is taken to a concentration camp together with his little son Giosué during WW2. Is it really possible to make fun of life in a concentration camp? Benigni manages it, but he does not leave out tragedy. Benigni wants us to see that life can be really beautiful and that we should appreciate it more.
